Welcome To Hope OF Africa

Welcome to Hope of Africa. This organization was incorporated in Atlanta, GA September 17, 2007 with the vision of empowering women and children who had lost hope due to poverty, lack of education and injustices they encountered particular in the west coast of Africa. In April 1997, I had the opportunity to do my internship at Kwame Nkrumah Hospital in Kuamsi, Ghana.

During my practicum, I was assigned to work at the public health unit. My assignments were to work with expectant mothers and children under the age of five. For the duration of my internship, I came in contact with children who were malnourished, some were infected with AIDS and others were born with low birth weight. The mothers that I interacted with could not read or write due to poor level of illiteracy. One of the most touching moments was a four years old little boy I will called Joe. Joe was brought into the hospital diagnosed with malaria, anemia and ingestion of kerosene he swallowed previously before he was admitted to the hospital. Joe's family could not afford numerous medications that were prescribed for him, let alone to support Joe's basic needs. The hopeless look on Joe's face brought tears to my eyes. At that moment, I knew I needed to do something to educate and empower women to live in a healthy environment, and ways they can improve and prevent child mortality especially in West Africa. That is my goal. Thank you and God bless.
